Even though I have a fairly stripped back style I rarely wear all black; I find it can be a bit too serious. But for days when I do, I like to add something a bit fun or casual into the look to take the edge off. Introducing a bit of patent is one way I’ve found to do this. And as patent is everywhere at the moment (and doesn’t seem to be going anywhere) I thought I’d have a go at styling it. I picked up this skirt from Mango ages ago after spotting it on Lucy Williams. Lucy is great at spotting an upcoming trend and making it her own. I then saw this skirt popping up everywhere and I was worried about looking like I was jumping on the bandwagon so I held off posting this look for a while.

“…I also love to support independent brands. We have so many talented creatives in this country…”

Most of the time, I tend to seek out smaller or lesser known brands that make good quality products that are fairly timeless. Not only do I get to wear something that, invariably, no one else has but I also love to support independent brands. We have so many talented creatives in this country and with all that’s going on with Brexit now it’s more important than ever to support them. One that I recently discovered is AV London, run by Adriana Voloschuk (AV) and good friend Elena Todary (who’s also the woman behind The Collaborative Store). AV London’s knitwear was what drew me to the brand, think form-fitting midi-length pencil skirts, dresses and neutral colour-block sweaters.

I’m wearing:
